I know everyone goes on about My Broom Broke So I Became A Healthcare Worker Halloween T Shirt and it’s become a cliche but honestly Hereditary did it for me in terms of not being able to predict where it was going, shock value, ability to rewatch and see sooo many different small things again and again, and really just plain enjoyment of a horror film and leaving with that ‘I just saw something amazing’ feeling.I am anticipating the ‘I didn’t think it was as good as The Thing’ / ‘How can you compare fucking Hereditary to the pinnacle of horror’ etc etc comments but honestly for me personally it is on a par. And that’s my point – that horror is such a HUGE genre that incorporates everything from silly creature feature to psychological drama, that I don’t think anyone can EVER pull just one film out and say, ‘This is the best horror film.’ It’s like saying, ‘This is the best comedy film and nothing has compared since.’ Like… it’s just such a dumb thing to say. They are so, so different and hit such different spots that I couldn’t ever say one film is THE best horror ever made.
