Currently, my daughter Maddie is a 2nd grader at Woodsdale Elementary. I am not originally from the area and my closest family lives 2 hours away. I reside in a single-parent house with my 7 and 4 year old and practice law across the river in 7 different Ohio Counties. To say this strike has caused an inconvenience, is an understatement.

An amazing letter of The future of West Virginia is in my classroom RedForEd shirt. My prayer is that all would be able to understand and support this action to the degree that you do, especially as this effort is forced to go on! Unfortunately because districts are separate and not a state entity we could or walk out/strike. As a former teacher, it is important to hear from another professional that adults who disrespect teachers and their profession pass that lack of respect and value onto the children. This is the most basic problem with American education!

My mother is a National Board Certified Teacher and The future of West Virginia is in my classroom RedForEd shirt. She dedicates many evening and weekend hours, and much of her own money, to ensure that her students are getting an enriching education. Today, though she’d rather be in her classroom with her kids, she is standing up for a future generation of educators. She’s fighting for a system that will welcome, support, and protect young teachers in West Virginia. Supporting kind, hard working, and loving educators, like my mother, is an integral step in supporting the children and future of West Virginia.
