Imagine you’re an average goblin, living your life in your goblin lair, an abandoned tomb long stripped of Vibin’ & Thrivin’ T shirt former occupants. You make a living scavenging scraps from around the local village, eating worms and squirrels and the occasional rat. You killed an intruder in your lair once, but he came into your house armed and looking for trouble. You took his crossbow and ill-fitting helm, which you keep in your lair because you never know when it will happen again. But what you really want to do is stay out of sight and live your life. Then one night, a bunch of people show up and wander right into your home! There’s a dwarf, a human, a halfling, and a filthy, stinking elf! You grab your crossbow and your ill-fitting helm, and prepare to defend yourself again. Your first arrow buries itself in the dwarf’s shield. You dodge the human’s arrow, and the dwarf’s hammer blow. You lose sight of the halfling, while the disgusting elf blasts you in the chest with a bolt of what looks like white fire, which seemed to emanate from the cursed holy symbol around its ugly, misshapen neck. It burns and stings, and reeks of rotten elf magic.

A lot of the complaints new DMs have is how the players derailed their campaigns and all the Vibin’ & Thrivin’ T shirt work they did. This makes them want to run the next sessions more on rails so their work doesn’t get wasted. This is a mistake and frankly a no-no for any DM. Never get too attached to your scenario and always be prepared to roll with whatever the players are trying to do. Be fair about it. I let the dice decide if their antics and shenanigans work or not, all within reason. Many times my players attempt tricks to avoid combat or make thing easier, but if the roll goes badly or their reasoning wasn’t good enough for me I let them crash and burn. Yet there are times when I even let them have a free dragon kill because their argument was convincing and they rolled good enough.

I can be some what of a Vibin’ & Thrivin’ T shirt for D&D 5e but I really like what they have done with the wizards. Wizards adding more spells to their spell book? I’m all over it. I’ve always loved wizards castings spells, molding fantasy, collecting spell books and arcane knowledge. With Wizards of D&D 5e, spells are balanced, lore is there; just enough. And this comes back to the DM. The DM is supposed to do stuff. It’s the unwritten rule. Have you heard? The DM is a fosterer of fantasy. They must consider each player character and each NPC in their game. What does each character want?

“The Fugitive” is an older man, Ben who plays with the local kids and Vibin’ & Thrivin’ T shirt almost magical powers. Old Ben’s favorite of the children is Jenny. He carries Jenny home (she walks with a leg brace), where she lives with her abrasively unsympathetic aunt, Agnes Gann. As they approach the row house, Ben causes his roller skates to de-materialize. This phenomenon is observed by two men who are watching the house from across the street. They enter the apartment building, identify themselves as police, and question Agnes about Ben. Jenny overhears the conversation and limps upstairs to Old Ben’s apartment to warn him. Old Ben takes on the form of a mouse, fooling the men into thinking he has left his apartment.Jenny takes the “mouse” back to her room. Old Ben tells Jenny that he is an alien from another planet, and that his appearance is only a disguise, as he is a fugitive from justice. Old Ben says he must flee to another planet, but before departing he uses a strange device to heal Jenny’s leg. The two strangers run into Jenny walking down the stairs without her brace.
