While it’s easy to seem snide on this subreddit to BLM’s stance on cuba and communism in general, it makes perfect sense for them to be aligned.Communists were some of the first political groups to support civil rights in America, and attempting to whitewash the communists and socialists ties to the civil rights movements blinds you to why we see so many of these groups, especially within the Tennessee Memphis Guitar Music Rockabilly T Shirt community support these efforts. This sub likes to praise the likes of MLK but forget their was a fred Hampton for every MLK that existed. It’s easy to point towards the atrocities that these societies have committed to their own people, but im the end Americans will be concerned chiefly with the affairs of Americans. In the Black American story, Capitalists don’t look like the good guys, theirs a reason all the prominent civil rights leaders were at least socialism, they found no support from the rich and powerful within America until it was politically expedient. This is coming from someone who is both Black and considers himself a neoliberal, perhaps being less snide and less whitewashing of history would do us some good in seeing what the appeal was, and how we can change their minds. This sub starts acting like berniebros “they dont know what’s good for them” whenever one of the blm or NAACP disagrees with the neoliberal view, because they’ve been the wrong side of it more times than not.Just my two cents.

You can be a communist while still acknowledging that the Cuban government is shit and Tennessee Memphis Guitar Music Rockabilly T Shirt people like shit. It’s not a sports team. Pointing the blame at the US while Cuban police officers beat the shit out of protestors is pathetic and hypocritical. If BLM is taking a stance on this issue and completely disregarding how horrible the Cuban government is because they don’t care about protestors in other countries, they can go fuck themselves. They don’t deserve our attention or respect.I appreciate your post and you do raise good points. Back when I was a libertarian I made similar arguments with more right-wing libertarians about why it was understandable that communism had some appeal among marginalized groups in the US and around the world. That said, I do think there’s a problem with the line I quoted, at least with regards to this specific example, because this goes beyond whether they know what’s best for themselves, they’re actively justifying the oppression of people in another country. I don’t think being oppressed in your country is justification for supporting oppression in another country (especially from people in a First World country talking about a developing country). I’m sure there were many Soviet dissidents who understandably had an overly rosy view of the US, but that nonetheless doesn’t mean it’d be ok for them to justify Jim Crow or Japanese interment or residential schools because the US was the Soviet regime’s ideological and geopolitical enemy.
