Now, above my desk there is a small [white] shelf with exposed sides, about an inch thick. The white space was bothering me more than my Geography books were apparently, so I decided to cover them. at the end of 5 mins, half of the 2m long side was covered with multi colored post-its with my favorite song quotes on them. Another thing you should know is that every day I go out to play basketball with about 7 others, but I had told them not to call me out to play those 2 weeks on account of my exams. When I heard the doorbell ring, I told my grandmother to please tell my friends that I wouldn’t be coming out.

I was a Senior on my way to class at my university. It was an extremely hot day in the South and I was hurrying to class, holding several heavy textbooks in my left arm. It was kind of nice and peaceful, for a change, not being part of a crowd. Several university buildings were across the wide avenue from me, while I could check out the stores, shops, and restaurants on my side as I walked. I wasn’t really thinking of anything in particular. Except for the heat, it was a bright, clear, beautiful sunny day.

6:25 or 6:30am- my mother glares at me from her post at the title counter. I sigh and sit down at the breakfast table. She purposefully knocks my drink over. I sigh and clean it up with some napkins. She likes playing the role of a typical suburban housewife- one with a daughter who has a respectful Christian boyfriend, who hasn’t lost her virginity, and is probably a cheerleader on the honor roll. She does not want me, a girl with a girlfriend of two years who she met through marching band, and someone who’s a solid B+ student.
