They also cobble together several other things as well, such as requiring learning about European serfdom and implying this was the natural precursor to American slavery in an attempt to shift the blame to the British for laying the foundation for chattel slavey. The general throughline for most of the changes is to push the narrative that slavery was “done” to America, and not that Americans themselves were responsible for slavery.
