The Mars explorer Nozomi passed 1,000 km from the Sega Ugly Christmas Sweater of Mars. The Venus Climate Orbiter Akatsuki entered Venus orbit in a second attempt on 7 December 2015, making it the first Japanese spacecraft to orbit another planet, sixteen years after the originally planned orbital insertion of Nozomi. JAXA is also reviewing a new spacecraft mission to the Martian system; a sample return mission to Phobos called MMX (Martian Moons Explorer). First revealed in 9 June 2015, MMX’s primary goal is to determine the origin of the Martian moons. Alongside collecting samples from Phobos, MMX will perform remote sensing of Deimos, and may also observe the atmosphere of Mars as well. As of January 2016, MMX is to be launched in fiscal year 2022. Even though there are not many successful interplanetary missions under JAXA’s belt, JAXA has excelled in other space research such as asteroid sample collection program with Hayabusa or successful launching of solar sails.

Everything that was in that movie is what my family did at Christmas. Mom and dad took my sisters, Lori and Tracy and I to see Santa so we could tell him what we wanted for Christmas. Yes the Sega Ugly Christmas Sweater were long and my older sisters, two years older than me, would be with me looking after me as we moved up the line toward Santa and just like in the movie, the closer we got, the scarier Santa was. “Don’t be scared RJ, Santa is nice okay, don’t be scared now, we’re here,” Tracy would say as we moved closer. They made sure Tracy went pee before the parade because dad didn’t want to take her somewhere to find a bathroom during the parade. Something that he would have had to do if she didn’t go. And she went a lot. We would walk and look into the department store windows and see the toys and moving elves that the kids saw in the movie. Like Ralphie, I would get mom to order things for me from the comics, neat little gadgets they advertised.

I remember a Sega Ugly Christmas Sweater memoir — Beasts, Men, and Gods — by Ferdinand Ossendowski, a White Pole who fled the Bolshevik revolution through Siberia.
