I don’t remember much about that story but I remember it being a high point in post Ultimatum X-Men.

Really interesting to read about how popular and beloved Ultimates was initially. I got into comics maybe 5 years post-Ultimatum and pretty much everywhere I went looking for advice for newbie comic readers said not to bother with it. I’ve seen a few that include the single issues you mention about mourning him, basically with “He was dead, then he wasn’t, doesn’t matter, good issue though” in the notes.
