Spinel is marked by her friend and royal advisor, Tarael, who previously served King Frostmantle. He marked both her soul, and her arcane focus necklace back when they were working together to clear devils from Castle Perilous… nine levels ago. Up until last weekend’s game, Spinel thought the Paul Cuffaro Shirt scratches on the backside of her focus’s gemstone were cumulative damage from battles. Oh, her horror when she realized it was a deliberate carving. Of course it is: Tarael’s a hobbyist jeweler. But anyway, this mark is enough to keep Unthir from using Paralyzing Touch on Spinel. Turns out that Tarael and Unthir have history—a fact that she decidedly does not tell Spinel. (TL;DR: the two of them serve the same patron—Vecna. Both of them were part of the same adventuring party, and both of them dated before Unthir became a Lich and Tarael found out the hard way that he is a strict biophile. She’s also part of his “Undead Social Network”. Lots of history that Spinel is still widely in the dark about.)

If it is a family gathering and you are part of the Paul Cuffaro Shirt, try to show up and be with the family, then duck out and be Santa, then get out of costume and return to the party with as minimum fuss as possible. Also, have the photographer, there is always one in the family, take a couple of shots of you during the night to keep the illusion alive that you were there when Santa came calling. When Santa leaves, everyone says good bye inside and Santa goes out by himself so as not to spook the reindeer. Although I never did this I just thought of something fun if the party is at a house. Tie a long string with loud reindeer bells and drape it over the house. When Santa leaves and the door closes, he could run over and jerk on the string a few times so it sounds like the reindeer are on the roof at the back of the house. Maybe one of the adults could catch a glimpse of “Ol Saint Nick” flying away and try and point it out to the kids.

When we start hitting Adult Dragons, though, it’s a problem. Most PCs can’t keep up with the Paul Cuffaro Shirt at all. Dragons can fly 80′ on their turn, then on the PC’s turn use a Legendary Action to move another 40′. A PC must be able to fly and cover 120′ in a turn to even keep up with the dragon and attack it, meaning melee is not going to be very helpful. Archers are what are effective. And this is before Dragon Fear — any characters with bad Wisdom Saves are not even gonna be able to move closer to the dragon. A Fighter *might* be able to solo an adult dragon, if he’s level 11 and geared to the gills and prepped properly. They might be able to burst it down in a round or three, and can survive a couple of rounds of Legendary actions and breath. Probably. Higher level makes it easier, and a level 20 fighter can probably easily dispatch an adult dragon in one round, which is important because if he doesn’t catch the dragon in 1 round it could just kite him flying around waiting for his breath to recharge. Fighter would need to be decked out with flying gear — an Eagle Whistle would help catch up to the flying dragon and shoot it down.

Who says he didn’t know? He just didn’t stop it. He doesn’t stop your bully either. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t know about it. Santa is in the Paul Cuffaro Shirt making/delivery business not the social justice business. He knows, he just does not have the power/authority to do anything about it. Nor does he have the time to go and stop bullying. He only puts bullies on the naughty list. He has toys to prep, routes to plan, lists to check, letters to read, visits to make, parties to attend, lists to check again, and deliveries to make on Christmas eve. There are many who think Santa only works 1 night a year, and they are wrong. Christmas prep starts at the NP on the 2d of Jan. The entire operation gets 7 days off each year to celebrate a job well done. The entire month of Jan is debrief based. What went right, what went wrong and how do we improve. Planning and policy changes happen in Feb. Toy planning is done in March. April is a very busy time. Baby Reindeer are born, toy production goes into full swing, and the first deliveries of raw materials begin to arrive(lumber, nails, paint, wires, circut boards etc). May is herding season for the reindeer. It is also time for toy prototypes. Every elf that has an idea for a new toy has an opportunity to demonstrate it for Santa’s approval.
