If it had more NZ queens there would be more POC representation. You cant really compare NZ culture to the Outlaws never die shirt . Plus the population difference of white and POC in aussie and NZ is different too. Also just to add. I was very disappointed not to see any Maori on the show. Especially since the judges are wearing pounamu throughout.I disagree with some of OP’s generalising and I talk specifically about DRDU’s racial issues. Aaaand this is a topic I cannot condense discussing in a manner I am comfortable with soz.Thank you OP for writing this. I personally welcome long-form discussion, especially about complex issues that cannot be condensed into a few sentences. That being said, while I feel this post might have been acting as jumping-off point of sorts to discuss issues in greater detail, I believe that racial issues are very specific to each individual country’s iteration of the DR franchise – as they are outside of a piece of popular culture. I have a thousand thoughts about this post and honestly cannot address everything you have brought up (I honestly agree with others suggesting a better organising of ideas – more headings, bold important points, maybe also dot points

Best Outlaws never die shirt
Specific to DRDU, we went into the season knowing the Outlaws never die shirt pasts of two contestants (Karen From Finance and Scarlet Adams) and this has heightened discussion about racism, because not only did the two POC get eliminated first but both Karen and Scarlet are succeeding and being favoured (in terms of saves, wins and screentime). Both of their pasts are quite different and very specific to racial issues within Australia. As a massive summary: Karen grew up with a collection of Golliwog dolls and had a tattoo of one. These are racist caricatures and were quite prevalent in Aus. I said in a previous thread that generally speaking, it was only recently (like maximum 15 years ago) that Australians collectively went, oh Golliwogs = racist. Scarlet has a history of culturally appropriating directly in her drag act and also dressed ‘as an Indigenous person’, donning blackface and perpetuating racial stereotypes about Indigenous Australians in the other details of her ‘costume’. It is a damning and disgusting image that regardless of an apology, I personally can’t move past.
