When I was quite small, my family were Jehovah’s Witnesses. My big brothers remembered their Catholic beginnings, they remembered magical Christmases. They tell us that Rex the Doberman is actually Rudolph. Would we really want Rex landing on our roof? Would we really want Scary Dad judging whether we were naughty or nice, and sneaking into our house while we slept?

I’ve just seen the initial roughs for the cover of one of the new books I co-wrote this year and the artist the publisher found is really really good. I can’t wait to see the final artwork. An extraordinary arrangement can happen in a year and between the overall hodgepodge, this may give off an impression of being understating the obvious for most. As glasses are raised and fireworks explode out of sight, it’s fundamental to see the exceptional symbolism that the New Year brings. Happy New Year messages should address new beginnings and new beginnings, similarly as a time of reflection.
