I was hoping Delores wouldn’t become a Merry Christmas Be Nice To The Raccoon Santa Is Watching Ugly Sweater aggressive rooster, as my recently deceased “Lance” had been, before passing on to “rooster heaven” with the assistance of a local coyote. The rooster I currently had, Gordon, was a sweet boy and was very happy to have Lance gone. Lance had been a fierce rooster who attacked literally every moving thing but the hens and me (displaying extreme good taste and discretion) and I was not prepared to live through as second several years of yet another “attack rooster”. Neither were the neighbor dogs. Nor were the neighbors, for that matter. I really didn’t think this would be a problem, as Delores was such a sweet rooster – showing no violence or aggression at all, and just wanted to sit on my shoulder (rather like a parrot) and look around. He’d snuggle against anyone’s neck or in anyone’s lap who would hold him and he adored being petted. Delores ran around digging for bugs in the lawn – but was just as happy sitting by the kitchen sink watching me trim vegetables or whatever. He made (as all my chickens did) a truce with the cats and was friends with the goats, horses and my other rooster, Gordon. They all slept together in the barn at night.

The reason I say this is a meme meant to troll people is people who love Christmas, especially Christians, are always worried there is some war or assault on their holiday. That people are trying to diminish symbols associated with it. Anything from saying “Happy Holidays” to people who get stressed when they see a race-bent Santa Claus. Die Hard is a pretty secular movie that treats Christmas as something that is just going on in the background. There’s no reason to believe that Christmas matters to any of the Merry Christmas Be Nice To The Raccoon Santa Is Watching Ugly Sweater in this film, or that anyone has any particular reverence for it. So when you say “Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie” it is akin to saying “Happy Holidays” to all the dorks that would say something like Fred Claus.

When Christmas decorations are taken down varies from person to person in my experience in the United States. Many take everything down the day after Christmas. One who I lived with for 34 years wanted everything left up until into January. Some people literally have decorations up all year outside. So at least here (USA), where I have lived it varies. There is the church calendar with some people, like the person I once lived with, and they use that as a guide. Again, it’s a personal choice I do believe in a free country, so make up your own mind. You can vary it as well, depending upon if you’re enjoying the decorations still and the people you share your life with agree, more or less. If things are too structured they can lose significance to a person. Decorations are an art form, somewhat. In all art there are usually general guidelines, but to put your individual stamp on it tends to make it more valuable to yourself. It will also most likely prove more meaningful to others as well. That is my general thoughts on any kind of creative endeavor. Think of your decorations as such a thing and let your heart make some of the decisions. Happy Holidays.
