The biggest aspect people probably aren’t talking about is how PSUs special teams has become one of the best and Minnesota’s has been struggling. Their punter has one of the lowest net avgs and they’ve had some really bad hiccups in coverage. kJ hamler has returned two kicks in two weeks but had them called back for penalties. Blake Gillikin has returned back to All-American punter form and Chisena+Hartlaub on coverage have pinned numerous kicks inside the 20. Gillikin has basically won some games over this 3 game stretch and including the Pitt game and Minnesota’s punter has struggled and now has to kick to one of the most dangerous guys in CFB. My guess is that he’ll try to kick away from him which will lead to some shanks and great field position.

Michigan is too herky jerky and they don’t really feel like the #4 rated defense in the country. They seem more like top 20 with a soft schedule, still good, but not elite. We saw periods in the Maryland game where Tua had all day to throw and the offense was thoroughly in sync. Against real competition, Michigan seems to take a while to adjust. I think the damage could be done by the time they get up to speed, and and McCarthys fumble minor fumbleitis is going to bite sometime this season – it just strongly seems to be this game when it will be so. It will be a game where Michigan fans kick themselves for having had the chances to win, but too many field goals, losing the turnover margin, suspect linebackers, and not coming through in 2-4 high leverage moments will be their undoing. I think PSU, via Clifford and the stretches where he is able to play clean, has the experience and explosively at the skill positions to manage those moments better and come away with a big win.

O’Korn definitely gives them a chance as he’s able to escape pressure and sometimes (rarely) make a play with his legs. That said, Michigan ranks 87th in total offense at 376 yards/game. PSU is the typical bend but don’t break. They need positive rushing yards to give O’Korn relief from having to convert long third downs. PSU has shown they are able to get into the backfield quickly on runs. This might be difficult for UM to get going. One last point, PSU defense has 9 interceptions and 8 fumble recoveries. The defense lives on turnovers.
