All of these apparent contradictions are evident in Americans themselves. They manage to be amongst the most genuinely welcoming and hospitable people you could hope to meet sometimes, and the least sincere and title at others. Americans can be incredibly generous, yet are often rather greedy in other ways, aspiring to wealth in a way many foreigners find rather distasteful. Americans can be hugely intellectual and have invented many many things, yet this is also the nation which has managed to elect Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump as the POTUS in my lifetime.
