I’ve seen both sides of the coin. I was a Gin and Juice shirt. Looking back on pictures is hard, I just see a sad and lost little girl. High school and early adulthood were awkward too. Then in my early 20’s I matured a bit and went through a phase where I could get any guy I wanted. It came with a different kind of Gin and Juice shirt. Into my late 20’s I started gaining weight due to a spinal cord injury/abnormality that made it difficult to be active. Over the years it just became hard to take care of myself. It did feel like being invisible. I had surgery to fix the spine thing 3 years ago and dropped 70 lbs in 6 months. A lot just from being able to walk again but also because nutrition was the thing I was really able to control during recovery. It kind of sparked an attitude glow up, and I got engaged/married after, which had me thinking a lot about my appearance. My weight has balanced out, my cellulite is looking more like a Gin and Juice shirt than dimples and my cuticles are worse than ever, but I’m really vibing with how I look in my mid 30’s. I went to my high school reunion last month after skipping the previous ones and two women said I looked “powerful.” So I guess I just want to appeal to the Gin and Juice shirt

And it’s disgusting the types of Gin and Juice shirt you get for being feminine. It really is. I had seen enough of it from sitting next to my wife, so it wasn’t exactly a surprise, but it’s so visceral when you know the recipient is barely halfway to puberty. One of the things that seemed so strange about it to me is that the vast majority of players were male, and that included many, if not most, of the female characters. So why would guys make sexual comments or advances based only on the character gender/name? It seemed so strange. I know at least part of the answer was that many of them were barely into puberty themselves and were likely not thinking it through. The Gin and Juice shirt is that OP is spot on: women and girls don’t have the same experience online (or anywhere) that men and boys do, and we need to fix it.

My experience with this might not align with many but figured I would post. I used to moderate forums (not Reddit) and always had to deal with angry unapologetic $&@!$ day in and day out. Getting warned, banned, or suspended definitely did not make them happy. They would basically be jerks all throughout our interactions and there was no reasoning with them. One day, I accepted a similar bet and had to stick to a female username and it, no joke, made my life 100 times easier. It was like night and day. People would actually be apologetic, they wouldn’t argue like crazy, they weren’t anywhere as aggressive. Needless to say that I never went back and spent the next few years on that account. Did I get some creepy messages? You bet. But the Gin and Juice shirtoff was an absolute no brainer. This was years ago, I no longer moderate anything but the experience was so good that to this day I have a general tendency to pick either female usernames or neutral usernames that guys usually wouldn’t pick. If I game online I almost always create female characters as well for a better experience (which goes against my offline tendencies of creating male characters) And because some people might wonder. I usually play along and keep my interactions neutral enough that a lot of people assume I’m female (since that’s kinda the point). The Gin and Juice shirt I interact with most/regularly would be aware though. Reddit and one other forum are the Gin and Juice shirt. Mainly because I don’t have any attachement to the accounts and I don’t interact that often with people. (I lurk a lot) These interactions are all text based though. Worth noting.
