Every 30 Seconds There’s A Bitch Posting A Posittive Mssege That She Doesn’t Live By Tee
I was probably about eleven or twelve years old, living with my mum and sisters in a two bedroom apartment. Mum worked two jobs to feed us because Dad had left us to move to another province with Mum’s best girlfriend. He deserted Mum taking all the household money, leaving her with no income. I remember that it was Xmas time. We were very poor, although we did not know it at the time. Mum bought us a tree, now I would call it a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. It was scraggly with few branches. We didn’t care. Mum popped popcorn on our gas stove so that we could string it as a Every 30 Seconds There’s A Bitch Posting A Posittive Mssege That She Doesn’t Live By Tee. Together, we made our decorations. It was a Xmas wonder because we were never able to see the tree until Christmas morning. That year was particularly hard for Mum, as our rent was expensive for her. I must admit that at the time I did not understand how awful it must have been for her to be so poor with three girls to support, all alone with no family help. Anyway, we went on with our Christmas doing, with Mum apologizing for not being able to buy us presents. She explained that at least we would have a nice dinner where we would be able to eat until we were full. That would be a treat because we were so often hungry. There was never enough food. We went to bed looking forward to the morning surprises. Just before we fell sleep there was a knock at the door. I can still hear mum saying, “Yes, I am Shirley J.” The other person began to explain that their class had adopted us for Christmas.

So you’ve got to be wondering how often is there a train wreck? Well you hear about the ones in urban areas because the train companies can’t conceal the event – too many witnesses. But most wrecks occur out in the middle of nowhere between cities in the big expanse of farmland and ranch land. The train companies have agreements with media companies to not cover these wrecks. I saw a blurb on the 5:00 news one night and it wasn’t there on the 6:00 or 10:00 news. And it was because the news team just happened to be driving by the wreck in the middle of nowhere and got film. But the story was buried. Never a mention again in any local media. Well, in New Mexico, which has a lot of empty space as the fifth largest state, there are two train companies running freight lines – Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific. I was contracted to BNSF and I know the UP had the same record. There was a train wreck an average of once every three weeks with the BNSF. This is the mother of pileups every month. The response time to the middle of nowhere is about 15 to 20 minutes, and we’d have a crew out to begin repairs within four hours and have the track cleared and operational again within 12 hours. That included bulldozers and giant loaders and excavators just pushing the wrecked cars and engines to the sides, rebuilding the track bed and laying new track and ties together with ballast. Later we’d clear the wreckage completely and haul all the cargo to a landfill for a Every 30 Seconds There’s A Bitch Posting A Posittive Mssege That She Doesn’t Live By Tee of goods. The train companies, being completely self-insured would simply write a check to their customer for the value of the goods. This happened every three weeks. That’s a lot of checks written for new goods that just got buried in landfills just because it was in a wreck. Not damaged, just present in the event.

Bob Marley One of the first shows I ever worked on. This was at the Santa Barbara Bowl. There was a downstairs dressing area and instead of using a catering service he and the Wailers brought their own people, I assume from Jamaica. They didn’t want any white people to touch the food only their crew, this was for religious reasons. I recall that they ground up coconut and sort of battered some fish with this and grilled it. Bob was much shorter and smaller than I imagined and as I am not too tall he was about my size. He had an intimidating look and I was young and for some reason felt a bit intimidated by him. Great show and boy did he and his crew/band smoke the weed. This was the one and only show I worked with Bob. Little River Band.. Nothing much to recall, seemed nice. Black Sabbath/Blue Oyster Cult-Ventura Fairgrounds. Well, I don’t like this kind of music but they were surprisingly nice and friendly. I doubt anyone will remember a band called “Honk” but they were from Laguna Beach and did the soundtrack for a surfing movie called “Five Summer Stories”. They were very laid-back, down-to-earth and a [[Every 30 Seconds There’s A Bitch Posting A Posittive Mssege That She Doesn’t Live By Tee]] to work with. They played a UCSB stadium show with The Beach Boys.

Maybe that’s why I just love Santa, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Christmas decor, Christmas Trees and Christmas MUSIC! Cause we never really had it…though my parents always had Xmas music on as we lit Hanukkah candles and opened Hanukkah presents. Haha. We never had stockings, or left cookies out for Santa, cause he passed over our house. Blah and ugh. Yea, as kids we were a little resentful of that. sighs. I remember once as a little kid my mom took me to the mall to get my pic with Santa and when he asked me (this little blonde hair blue eyed girl) what I wanted for Xmas I looked at him and I started crying. I said I am Jewish… think I yelled at him…you don’t ever come to my house. And, he looked at me like so confused and lost…the $10 dollar an hour Santa was at a loss for words, not sure what to say to me…..I held on to his arm and I begged him to come to our house just this one time. My mom had to pull me away. He seemed relieved however, he did promise me he would come. And that year we left cookies out for him (in the shape of Jewish stars and Dreidels) and carrots on the lawn for the Every 30 Seconds There’s A Bitch Posting A Posittive Mssege That She Doesn’t Live By Tee. And what do you know, he actually did come to my house…. I will say I was so so happy. sighs oh the joys of being a child.

America created romanticised cultural icons of Al Capone, Billy the Kid, Bonnie and Clyde and the Hells Angels, but locks up more people for longer than virtually any other nation on earth. American is more overtly Christian than Europe and raises inordinate sums of money for charities, but is seemingly less believing in redemption and forgiveness, and unwilling to grant it’s government much of a mandate to look after the needy. America made endless war films about the senseless stupidity of the Vietnam war, and then rushed into Iraq twice anyway. It’s a very strange country, a unique one. All of these apparent contradictions are evident in Americans themselves. They manage to be amongst the most genuinely welcoming and hospitable people you could hope to meet sometimes, and the least sincere and title at others. Americans can be incredibly generous, yet are often rather greedy in other ways, aspiring to wealth in a way many foreigners find rather distasteful. Americans can be hugely intellectual and have invented many many things, yet this is also the nation which has managed to elect Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump as the POTUS in my lifetime.
