Instead it was a pagan Holiday known as winter solstice and things like decorating trees where outright opposed by early biblical doctorines specifically because of their pagan roots. It wasn’t until Rome adopted Christianity as its emperor sponsored religion that it got labeled as Christian and it had nothing to do with Christ. Basically the pagans didn’t want to convert and early Christian authorities thought this was because pagans didn’t want to loose their holidays so instead they just rebranded them as a way of saying “hey we celebrate to but it has to be about Jesus”.
