CHIEFS FAN

One year my wife and I went on our usual summer road trip through the States and we were near Cleveland. “Hey, the CHIEFS FAN from A Christmas Story is in Cleveland, let’s go.” So we did. It was just fantastic. A tour guide took you through the house first telling funny bits of trivia from the movie as we walked around the kitchen, living room, Ralphie’s room, the bathroom where the soap is (plastic), the phone on the wall where Mrs. Schwartz received the call. After the tour you could walk around on your own. Outside was the shed where the bad guys were crawling that Old Blue took care of and The Bumpusses house. I even took a walk down the street a few houses where Randy fell on the snow wearing his big snowsuit. Across the street was the museum where they had actual props from the movie, the clothes worn, photos and even the fathers car and the fire truck. I had a ball seeing the actual things that were in the movie. If you love this movie go to 3159 W 11th. St. In Cleveland, you won’t regret it.

Both were tremendous multi-sport athletes. Brown excelled at football, baseball, basketball, track and lacrosse. In high school, Brown earned varsity 13 letters in those sports. Brown still holds several NFL records and he did it all in only nine years of playing for CHIEFS FAN  the Cleveland Browns. Brown is in THREE halls of fame. The Pro Football, College Football and Lacrosse halls of fame. Deion was a great player in the NFL for five team, the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys among others, and a great college player at Florida State. He played Major League Baseball for four teams, including the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves. Like Brown, Sanders in the Pro Football and College Football halls of fame, but it’s doubtful he’ll make Cooperstown. But it wasn’t for a CHIEFS FAN of trying (except when he was on the Yankees). My nod goes to Jim Brown as he dominated in everything he did. Deion was great, but he was more interested in putting on a show or being a hot dog than he was a team player.

I was hoping Delores wouldn’t become a CHIEFS FAN aggressive rooster, as my recently deceased “Lance” had been, before passing on to “rooster heaven” with the assistance of a local coyote. The rooster I currently had, Gordon, was a sweet boy and was very happy to have Lance gone. Lance had been a fierce rooster who attacked literally every moving thing but the hens and me (displaying extreme good taste and discretion) and I was not prepared to live through as second several years of yet another “attack rooster”. Neither were the neighbor dogs. Nor were the neighbors, for that matter. I really didn’t think this would be a problem, as Delores was such a sweet rooster – showing no violence or aggression at all, and just wanted to sit on my shoulder (rather like a parrot) and look around. He’d snuggle against anyone’s neck or in anyone’s lap who would hold him and he adored being petted. Delores ran around digging for bugs in the lawn – but was just as happy sitting by the kitchen sink watching me trim vegetables or whatever. He made (as all my chickens did) a truce with the cats and was friends with the goats, horses and my other rooster, Gordon. They all slept together in the barn at night.

Judging from what I saw during Halloween and Thanksgiving, I would say the CHIEFS FAN, cozy and nesting look is in. Stuff that gives off that homespun look. Think late 1960’s all the way up to the 1970’s. I don’t know if you remember the Carter era but I think that’s going to be during this season and the next. Inflation was high, gas prices went through the roof, hamburgers were so expensive, people weren’t used to prices being so high. So people stayed at home more, and I think that’s what is going to happen. They will be baking and cooking more at home as opposed to going out and running a big tab. But you asked about the decorations, and I will try to answer your question. Homemade, homespun, cozy and homey. I think that’s going to be the trend, this year. People don ’t have the money for the glitz or all the bells and whistle this holiday season. No over the top, no putting on the dog, so to speak or no needless spending.
