Spinel froze. She thought she was sneaking better than that! Then she remembered that Liches, like most undead, don’t actually need to sleep. Instead, she looked up to see the Boo Ghost Reading Books Librarian Halloween Boys Girls Kids T Shirt Copy body from earlier, standing up and staring at Spinel with glowing eyes. The mage hand Spinel used to write her letter faltered, her quill scratched a few jagged, splattered lines across the note. “I’m so sorry! I hadn’t meant to intrude, and, just—you were sleeping, or I thought you were sleeping—anyway! I’m so sorry, I thought you might get cold down here by yourself.” Let it never be said that Spinel’s not compassionate. Often to the point of absurdity. Now, Lich Queen Unthir doesn’t immediately attack. And there is a very important reason for this that I as the player know, but my character Spinel, does not: Spinel’s soul is marked by another Lich. All Liches have Truesight, and therefore DM and I ruled that they can absobloodylutely see souls. Therefore, some Liches like to “mark” the souls of their favourite mortals/pets/slaves/etc to indicate: “This is mine. Don’t touch or I’ll come mess you up.”

Unlike Santa, elves or even clean coal, reindeer are real. They may not fly, but there’s a good deal of truth around the Boo Ghost Reading Books Librarian Halloween Boys Girls Kids T Shirt Copy of Christmas’s favorite animal. Yes, they do live in extremely cold conditions. Yes, they are known to pull sleds. And, yes, their noses really do turn a shade of red given the right conditions. First off, caribou and reindeer essentially are the same animal and are classified as the same species (Rangifer tarandus). They are also both part of the deer family, or cervidae, which also includes deer, elk and moose. However, there are subtle differences. “Reindeer” is often used to describe the domesticated animals, the ones that are herded and employed by humans to pull sleds. They are also often smaller and have shorter legs than their wild brethren. In addition, the name reindeer is more often used to refer to the European variety, ones that live in Siberia, Greenland and northern Asia. The word “caribou” tends to mean the North American (meaning living in Canada and Alaska) and/or the wild variety. Because caribou are wild and reindeer are domesticated, scientists agree that most of the differences between the two are evolutionary as opposed to inherent. Caribou are larger, more active, faster and migrate further than reindeer. In fact, the caribou undertake the largest land migration of any animal in North America every year in search of better conditions and food for their young.

Playing them as arrogant slavers is the Boo Ghost Reading Books Librarian Halloween Boys Girls Kids T Shirt Copy way it’s done, and that’s fine, but I think it misses the main point. Mind Flayers should be more like villains out of Doctor Who than they should be out of Tolkien, and the Doctor rarely wins battles by dint of arms. They are the ultimate masters of mental abilities, able to paralyze, enslave, or even kill with their thoughts alone. It’s a rare character indeed who can counter or match their mental powers. A great way to establish that alien quality is to make mind flayers completely incapable of speech. Have the mind flayers communicate via images only, projected directly into one’s mind. If push comes to shove, have them talk haltingly through a person like in Independence Day when the alien is squeezing the life out of Brent Spiner’s body, except the Mind Flayer has its face tentacles literally in the victim’s skull when doing this. Terrifying!

“Night of the Meek” is Christmas Eve. Henry Corwin, a down-and-out ne’er-do-well, dressed in a Boo Ghost Reading Books Librarian Halloween Boys Girls Kids T Shirt Copy, worn-out Santa Claus suit, has just spent his last few dollars on a sandwich and six drinks at the neighborhood bar. While Bruce, the bartender, is on the phone, he sees Corwin reaching for the bottle; Bruce throws him out. Corwin arrives for his seasonal job as a department store Santa, an hour late and obviously drunk. When customers complain, Dundee, the manager, fires him and orders him off the premises. Corwin says that he drinks because he lives in a “dirty rooming house on a street filled with hungry kids and shabby people” for whom he is incapable of fulfilling his desired role as Santa. He declares that if he had just one wish granted him on Christmas Eve, he’d “like to see the meek inherit the earth”. Still in his outfit, he returns to the bar but is refused re-entry by Bruce. Stumbling into an alley, he hears sleigh bells. A cat knocks down a large burlap bag full of empty cans; but when he trips over it, it is now filled with gift-wrapped packages. As he starts giving them away, he realizes that the bag is somehow producing any item that is asked for. Overjoyed at his sudden ability to fulfill dreams, Corwin proceeds to hand out presents to passing children and then to derelict men attending Christmas Eve service at Sister Florence’s “Delancey Street Mission House”. Irritated by the disruption and outraged by Corwin’s offer of a new dress, Sister Florence hurries outside to fetch Officer Flaherty, who arrests Corwin for stealing the presents from his former place of employment. At the police station, Dundee reaches into the garbage bag to display some of the purportedly stolen goods, but instead finds the empty cans and the cat.
