So when my daughter asked for help changing the baby’s diaper, I said “I can’t help, I’m at work, you’re babysitting’. {Note, I didn’t leave, we were role playing}. It took her 15 baby wipes, but she got it done like a trooper. Just when she thought she was on top of all this, the had a colic fit because of the dairy formula. And I reminded her that this is exactly what she did at that age. I stepped in on behalf of the baby of course, since I knew what to do and good luck in her pain. But that was when she finally threw up her hands and said she couldn’t do it. She said she was going to stick to babysitting and that’s exactly what she did. ETA – She did not swear off having children because I traumatized her. She never wanted children, she likes taking care of other people’s children. She is autistic and knows her boundaries and her triggers, as do I.
