I see a lot of posts about guns and even Video Game Don’t Make Us Violent Shirt being THE “problem”. Oh how I wish it were that simple and getting rid of those things would miraculously stop school violence. It won’t. My heart breaks for the families of students who have been hurt. As a teacher I remember thinking during Active Shooter Drill Training “I didn’t sign up for this, what has happened to our culture.” As a momma I worry everyday for the safety of my children because no place seems safe anymore. But as I watch people attack each other, over gun control and more, I wanted to paint a different picture for you because a lot of you have an image in your head of people who own guns or play “violent” video games. Meet AJae, he’s almost 16 years old. He plays basketball and baseball. Is a straight A student. He is the President of his class and wants to be an Engineer.

And then there is TJae, who is 13, sweetest kiddo I know, plays basketball, runs track, is on the B honor roll, cares for the neighbors dog… and he likes Video Game Don’t Make Us Violent Shirt (the killing/war kind) at first I was concerned until I asked him why he liked playing those games and he responded, “ I love that we have a mission and we have to work together as a team to achieve it”. So how is it these things in one hand can be fun, safe, even a learning tool…. and yet in another hand can be devastating….. you only need to look at the heart of the person. Hurt people hurt people and loved people love people. What MY two boys have in common is their love for the Lord. We can make laws, limit this or that, lock up the schools, lock up guns, but until we address the root…. the vine will just grow back continuing to bear bad fruit.

During my generation in the 60’s we went to school wearing dress slacks,a collared shirt and dress shoes…We had no tattoos or body piercings…Girls didn’t dress up like hookers… We respected our teachers and looked up to them for guidance…We were better off without stupid Video Game Don’t Make Us Violent Shirt, that do nothing except promote killing…Stupid smart phones that don’t teach social skills…Social media sites that ridicule kids, to make them feel bad about themselves and then commit suicide…We never had gun shows…Only the police owned guns…Today almost every household owns several…I never had a key to my house all through my high school years living with my parents…Never heard of anyone who had their car stolen either…Parents give their kids everything electronic these days because they feel they need them..
