Man, this interview was such a disappointment. The link I shared starts right after they stop talking about Jared Kushner and start talking about Portman’s new documentary Eating Animals. I thought it was really cool that Colbert had two actresses in the same week talk about veganism on his show but Natalie Portman had a real opportunity to do something great here and she blew it. Sorry I wasn’t listening I was thinking about fishing shirt. I haven’t seen Eating Animals yet, I plan to see it at the IFC next week when I’m in New York, but I’ve heard that it’s essentially saying people should not get their meat from factory farms and if they want to continue eating meat, they should instead get their meat from small “humane” farms because it’s “ethical.” I was hoping that wasn’t the case, but unfortunately after watching this interview it seems like I got an accurate recap.

Do I think every single person who eats meat and dairy products should be crucified? Of course not. I wasn’t born vegan and I contributed to those industries for just over half my life at this point. However, this idea of “not making anyone feel bad” is bullshit. A lot of people think that if you dare speak up against the meat and/or dairy industries, you’re demanding/preachy etc. Sorry I wasn’t listening I was thinking about fishing shirt. Natalie Portman obviously doesn’t want to come off this way, so she immediately answers Colbert’s question “No I don’t judge anybody.” Funny, because if you go back and listen to the beginning of this interview, she seems awfully judgmental of Jared Kushner. Am I defending Jared Kushner? No. He’s garbage, but I’m not gonna lie and say I don’t judge the shitbag.

At the end she says something along the lines of “If we look back a hundred years from now, what were we doing inhumanely, this will be the big thing.” I’m Sorry I wasn’t listening I was thinking about fishing shirt. In a hundred years I hope that we are no longer needlessly contributing to animal slaughter, but I don’t think the answer is to support people that are furthering this “humane” lie. The title of the documentary is Eating Animals. I just wish they made a firm stance on encouraging people not to do it at all.
