It was several   later I rode my bike past the same house and noticed the old car parked on the driveway. It didn’t look as scary as it did that night, but I was still nervous. I am not sure how I found out, but sometime later I found out that the son of an older couple that lived there was deaf and mute. It dawned on me that we hadn’t experienced a ghoulish monster at all. The deaf son’s car had broken down and he was hoping to get us to help him push the car to the driveway. I felt kind of bad. I still wonder if he ever put together what impact his contact had on us that Halloween night.

As we approached the end of the road it actually seemed to get   . The small cross street was paved but had no sidewalks or street lights. Most of the houses were older and set back on long driveways surrounded by spooky looking trees. It was like going from the kettle into the fire. We thought we would feel safer, but we didn’t. There were no other people on the street… just us. We had a choice. Turn left towards another dark road, or right towards regular neighborhoods with lights and sidewalks. We quickly chose right and continued walking. We only had about a quarter mile more to go when we came across an old 50′s style car parked in the middle of the road. It wasn’t running, and the lights were off.
