I looked over and saw the nurse mouthing the prayers as she tended to my daughter. When we knew my daughter would probably not survive the Nurse Easily distracted by dogs and big veins shirt, one of our regular nurses came in on her day off to be with us. This same nurse painted my unconscious daughter’s nails one day, saying she was way too pretty not to have her nails done. Another nurse who took care of my daughter two years prior to this, came to check on her everyday during her break. I know they saw my child as their child too. I felt the hand of God through these nurses. I will forever be grateful.

I know it’s no way near the same but when I was in hospital being diagnosed with asthma at the age of 7, my nurse was unforgettable and Nurse Easily distracted by dogs and big veins shirt. When I needed oxygen, she asked me whether I’d prefer a mask or tubes and told me ‘tubes would look cooler’. Really she knew they would be better for me. She kept my spirits up when I thought I was going to spend Christmas in hospital and she hugged me when I cried because I didn’t want to leave! Nurses can be a child’s hero.

My heart goes out to the nurses who have to deal with Nurse Easily distracted by dogs and big veins shirt. One has to have an incredible strong spirit to power through patient after patient, seeing them suffer so unfairly, staying strong for them and repeat the same every single day. I know I’d crack up, I can’t picture how it doesn’t affect your spirit after a while. There are beautiful rewards when a patient is released healthy, but the losses and the suffering must be insurmountable to overcome. Thanks to all the nurses for doing a hero’s work.
