I spent a long while thinking about Steven Bochco last night, thinking about how a man I never met had such a profound influence on me as a writer and Never Trust A Person Who Doesn’t Love Shirt. But he made his indelible mark on television–and on me–as a producer. Could I make more money letting go of that philosophy? Yep. But I won’t. That’s my philosophy, and I’m sticking with it. I owe that philosophy in part to Steven Bochco, a man I never met, who passed away this weekend. A bright light gone out far too soon.

They live life so perfectly but know nothing of life at all.
