I worked there circa 2010 and I can unequivocally say that Don’t be a dick Jesus shirt is by far the worst job that I’ve ever had. I’m mexican-american and I can vouch for you in your assertion that there is open hostility towards people of hispanic heritage. Maybe it’s not so overtly displayed towards customers because like someone else mentioned in this thread, Indio’s population is predominantly hispanic and that would be bad for business.

However, employees are treated entirely different. In my very brief tenure there, I witnessed employees being belittled and treated with utter disdain, and it all came from the Don’t be a dick Jesus shirt. I’m not sure if yellow mart is still under the same ownership, but when I was there, the owner, bruce jernigan, was one of the most condescending and disdainful persons I had ever met up to that point. For instance, he commented to a fellow coworker that I was strange and weird.

On another occasion, he cursed at me when he had me take over the Don’t be a dick Jesus shirt and I was having a difficult time operating it. These are just two examples, but there were many other instances were his attitude towards me was not only unprofessional, but contemptuous. And although I personally tried to brush things like that off, I couldn’t tolerate the repeated episodes of disrespect and denigration.
