I don’t think saying someone is racist is shaming them into compliance. I enjoyed this thread. Some thought provoking responses and respect shown throughout. Ryan, just to throw my two pence in, I agree with Dear racism i am not my grandparents sincerely these hands shirt. It is not acceptable to be making comments etc and people should be called out on it. However, if somebody is generally kind and welcoming to others of opposing race then its ignorance and not deep rooted racism in my opinion. I called a friend out once on a seemingly offhand comment about a Muslim colleague.

Being on the receiving end of these microaggressions feels like racism. We don’t walk away confused on the intent of those behaviors or with the thought that those Dear racism i am not my grandparents sincerely these hands shirt were only slightly racist. There is no slightly rapist, pedophile, thief or murderer to those who are victimized. We as a society have to be willing to acknowledge racism in all its forms in order to fully address it. It starts with listening to those who experience racism.
